This year, we are working with the charity RedSTART to deliver financial education workshops to all children from Reception to Year 6. Last week children in Year 1 and Year 4 took part in games and activities which helped them develop an understanding of the concepts of saving, spending and budgeting. Year 1 learnt to recognise different coins and played a game where they saved their acorns so that they could afford to buy a hot chocolate. Year 1 also learnt that money is safer if you keep it in the bank. Year 4 learnt about how to use and borrow money, using credit and debit cards. Tony from Planets class said, “We learnt that when you spend too much money your bank account can go into an overdraft.” All of the children developed their understanding of finance and had lots of fun!
All other year groups will have a chance to take part in their own workshops this academic year.
