Today we were visited by the MP for Croydon North and Streatham and the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Steve Reed. He met with Years 3 and 4 and then Years 5 and 6 in two separate assemblies. This gave us more of an opportunity to engage with Steve and ask questions on the topics that interest us the most. He spoke about how he got into politics and explained that each day is very different from the next. He took the time to describe the structures in place that support you to create change in your local area and talked about improvements that have been made and are in the process of changing in the local area and nationally.
Children asked thoughtful and interesting questions and were highly engaged throughout. Steve commented that he was wowed by the children’s knowledge of current affairs, enagement and passion. At the end of the session, he encouraged the children to be agents of change and work to make society one they envision it to be.
Steve then sat with our Senior Leadership Team to discuss local and educational issues and consider how he might help.
Many thanks to Rt Hon Steve Reed for visiting and to Oscar Harman for organinsing the visit.
