We began the week at Lower site with a special ‘Speak out and Stay Safe‘ assembly. In this assembly, the children learnt how to speak out an tell a trusted adult if they had any worries or concerns. We discussed how this our right and that we can get help in needed. During the assembly we talked about the types of ways children may be harmed by adults and friends. We understand that this is not okay. The children then completed a follow-up PHSE session in class where they discussed and identified 5 trusted adults over the age of 18 who they could speak to if they were worried or concerned.
The Upper Site enjoyed an assembly with Mrs Ebrahim in which she talked about the importance of kindness and the effect that small acts of kindness have on others. We also know that small acts of kindness also help our own emotional well-being too. Ms Ebrahim reminded children of who they can speak to if they are experiencing unkindness and which adults in school are specially trained to ensure children are safe. Ms Prideaux and Mrs Corbet will be delivering our KS2 Speak out and Stay Safe assembly on Wednesday 20th November.
Violet Class Assembly
On Thursday morning, we were treated to an amazing assembly. Violet Class performed a very informative assembly about Remembrance Day and the importance of remembering those who sacrificed their lives to bring peace. Thank to the House Captains from the Upper Site who also joined us to sell poppies. To find out more, read our article here
Green Class Trip
As part of their science learning, Green Class visited the science museum travelling by train and underground. They had a fantastic day and learnt lots. Well done Green Class for being such good representatives of our school!
Year 1 Moon Day
Today as been a very exciting day in Year 1 as it was ‘Moon Day’. The children blasted off to the moon met a strange alien and had a picnic on the moon. To read more about this, read our article here.
Y6 Votes for Women!
Last Friday, Year 6 congregated on the playground to deliver impassioned speeches calling for women’s right to vote. The emotive call to action included rhetorical questions, carefully crafted persuasive and emotion-provoking language to rouse the masses! It was wonderful to hear them all speak so confidently in front of their peers.
Cypress Superstars
Congratulations to Mateen in Ruby Class who came to the office with a lovely piece of writing describing Mr Twit’s beard. It was wonderful to see how much progress he has made in his writing since the beginning of the year. Congratulations to Kaden, Arona, Jason, Mahbubat, Julia and Jasmine in Turquoise Class who came to share there wonderful persuasive letters explaining why Mr Twit should not come and work at our school. We were very impressed with the quality of their writing. Well Done to Noa, Arthur and Violaine in Ruby Class who came to share their very informative history work about Henry VIII. We really enjoyed reading it.
Well done to Alice and Bea in Willow came to the office to share their knowledge of the Guru Granth Sahib, and how it might be placed in a room where its passages are shared with others. You were well informed and confident during the discussion! Gordon came to show his shading techniques; he had taken time trying to alter the pressure of his pencil to create a spherical effect on the paper.
Well done to Phoenix in Cedar, who has away during the Gold Award assembly and received it this week. Keep on persevering and challenging yourself! Mabli, James and Yusuf in Holly came to see me to discuss life in the Victorian era. They used great researched skills nad capitalised on the resources around them to produce a comparison to life now. We collectively decided that modern life is much better than life as a Victorian child! Louis and Niamh in Hawthorn came to show me diagrams they had drawn depicting the water cycle and explained the process using scientific vocabulary – it was very impressive!
Jessica in Willow class wrote a beautiful message on her poppy as we prepare for our Remembrance assembly and outdoor gathering on Monday. Robin in Larch came to see me to share an exceptionally well-written piece of narrative text based on the current Year 6 book, ‘The Watchtower’. I think we may have a budding author in our midst! Khloe in Oak worked with great focus and skill to multiply and divide fractions. She explained her method to me perfectly! Well done, Khloe.
Forthcoming Temporary Changes to Leadership at Cypress
This is to inform you that Mrs Sorensen will be returning to Cypress Lower from her maternity leave on 2nd December until the end of the autumn term on 20th December.
However in January, she will be taking up the position of Acting Head of School at Ecclesbourne Primary whilst the substantive head is on maternity leave. During this period, Claire Binks will remain as Acting Head at the Lower School and Nancy Wayman will continue as Acting Deputy Head of the Upper School.
As Cypress has a very strong leadership team we are able, at this time, to support another school in the Trust, just as, at times, staff have previously come from other schools to provide leadership when Cypress was in need. As you know, Ms Binks, Mrs Carpenter, Miss Chapman and Ms Wayman provide strength and stability, and even though Mrs Sorensen will be missed while she is at Ecclesbourne, Cypress’s highly effective senior leadership team will continue to move the school forward in her absence.
Jolyon Roberts and Lynne Sampson – Executive Principals
We wish all our children and families a wonderful weekend.
