It has been a busy week at Cypress this week and the weather has been glorious
At the Upper school, we have been thinking about the skill of collaboration and how this can help us achieve more in our learning. We looked at a video of ants working together and were amazed at how well they collaborated to create their own bridge. The children were surprised at how much trust the ants had in each other and that they were then able to climb over the leaf on the other side. We discussed what would have happened if one of the ants had let go and decided they did not want to collaborate. The children are now working on using their collaborative skills in their lessons this week.
At the Lower site we have marked Healthy Eating Week 2023 with two assemblies! We have learnt about the importance of healthy eating, thought about how we can all live healthier lifestyles and considered new foods we can try to diversify our diets. Two parents have told Mrs Sorensen on the gate that their children have wanted to try new foods at home!
Year 6 visit Chessington
On Wednesday, the Year 6 children enjoyed a fantastic day out at Chessington. They travelled to and from the park by train and enjoyed trying out all the rides. We certainly have some fearless children! Year 6 had a fantastic day and arrived back in school exhausted but happy after a fun-packed day. Thank you to the staff and all our parent volunteers for helping the children make some wonderful memories.
Word of the Week
This week’s ‘Word Wizard’ at the Upper school was Kendra in Lime Class who wrote a fantastic sentence using the word ‘moonlit’. This week’s word is ‘blustery‘. Please put your entries in the box outside the office to be in with a chance of winning.
At the Lower school, Louis and Maddie wrote fantastic sentences using ‘moment’. Next week our Word of the Week is ‘waves’ so pop your entry into the golden box for a chance to win!
Cypress Superstars
Congratulations to Jack in Rowan Class who visited the office with his football medal and trophies this week. He achieved a leavers’ medal as he is moving to a new team and two trophies. The trophies were for ‘Top Assister’ and ‘Players’ Player’. What a lot of achievement! Well done to Bea in Holly Class who came to show me her wonderful work all about Stonehenge. She had visited during the holidays and produced an interesting and informative book showcasing her learning. Congratulations to Malaika, Eve, Matilda, Amelia, Gracie, Maggie, Cara and Meredith in Willow Class who visited the office with some fantastic leaflets they had made in their ‘Values’ lesson to encourage people to join different clubs. What wonderful creativity! Well done to Emerson, Joe and Cora-Rose in Lime Class who came to show some lovely art work they had completed.
Well done to Luna in Green class who has written an amazing poem all about Africa, which she has performed for many different members of staff. Check out her photo below to read her work! Bertie in Indigo class created a fantastic line drawing of an African landscape this week. Year 1 are totally absorbed in their Africa topic at the moment! Clara, Oscar, Louiza and Alfie have been working hard in Orange class to write their very own ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ stories. We are so impressed with how well they are using their sounds to write new words. Well done to our Rainbow certificate recipients today, who we celebrated in assembly.
A HUGE well done to all the children in Year 1 and Year 2 who have taken their Phonics Screening Check (PSC) this week. You all tried so hard and we are so proud of the progress you have all made. Parents will know if their child has completed the PSC as they will have come home wearing a phonics sticker and will also tell you they got a biscuit in school 🙂
