Toby (Year 6) performs well in Tennis Tournament
On Thursday 4th May, Toby, who is in Year 6, represented Atwood as a prestigious tennis tournament. Toby and his team mate from another local school had a great day today and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Both boys played amazing tennis and won 5 matches out of 6 and narrowly missed out by 1 point on qualifying for the semi final, so were very unlucky.
They beat City of London Freemans, Esher, St George’s College and Amesbury School. They only lost to the eventual winners who were Kings College London which is a one of London’s leading independent schools.
Toby’s parents reported, ‘The best thing that came out of the day for us was that Toby conducted himself well and made some friends from other schools and he interacted well. Of course he was disappointed not to be in the semi final but the winning team said that he and his partner were their toughest opposition and also commented how good Toby was, which went a long way for his self esteem!’
It goes to show that children from state schools can perform just as well as children from the independent sector. I know that Toby has a bright future and may be on his way to earning those ATP points.
