It has been another super week of learning at Cypress with the children all making good progress and showing great pride in their learning.
On Monday at the Upper School, we revisited the skill of distilling and talked about strategies to help us with our learning. In our BLP sessions in class this week, we have focused on creating a page of ideas of things that help us with our learning that we can refer to during our lessons.
At the Lower School, Mrs Jerman led an assembly on Monday about Earth Day. We learnt about the importance of looking after our planet and the environment.
Cedar Class Assembly
On Tuesday, we were treated to a fantastic assembly all about the Stone Age. We met the Flintstones and even David Attenborough! The children really impressed with their confidence and knowledge and even added in some additional learning based on their caveman experience trip. They finished their assembly with a fantastic performance of ‘Count on Me’. A huge well done to Cedar class and Miss Hassan for all your hard work putting this assembly together. Thank you to all our parents and carers who were able to join us.
Hazel Class Assembly
We started the day today with Hazel Class Assembly who had written their script themselves. We were treated to a gruesome journey through ‘Crime and Punishment’ in history. It was so impressive to see how independent the children are and how well they worked as a team. We finished the assembly with a great rendition of ‘I’m still standing’. Well to Hazel Class and Miss Patel for all your hard work in preparing the assembly.
Cypress Superstars
Congratulations to Alanna who has qualified for the national diving championship. We enjoyed celebrating her in assembly and showing her medal. Well done to Sophie, Leo and Dara who came to share some fantastic non-fiction writing about the Stone Age. We were also treated to a fantastic performance from Joe, Meredith and Eira who has been learning about ‘The Gunpowder Plot’ as part of their ‘Crime and Punishment’ topic in Thematic. Well done to Frankie, who came to share his phonics learning this week and has been working really hard at home and school on his learning. Congratulations to Rowan Class for winning the BLP cup for using their ‘distilling’ skills and Lime Class for winning the sunflower growing competition.
At the Lower School this week Ailani in Blue class has impressed us with her independent booklet, sharing what’s unique about her. Ted, Mateus, Isobel and Kaycee in Turquoise class have created beautiful seascapes in the style of Van Gogh, as part of their thematic work. Caleb and Alex in Violet class have been writing their own stories based on ‘Rosie’s Magic Horse’, using story features, neat handwriting and impressive adjectives. Well done to all of our Rainbow certificate recipients today! We are so proud of you all.
Word of the Week
At the Upper School, this week’s ‘word wizard’ was Lexie in Hazel Class who wrote a fantastic sentence using the word ‘rustling’. This week’s word is ‘deluge’. Please get your entries in to be in with a chance of winning.
Well done to Luca and Marcel at the Lower School for using ‘exciting’ in very exciting sentences! This week our Word of the Week is ‘ancient’.
