CYP: Springing into action!

Spring has sprung this week and everyone at Cypress has been working hard to produce some amazing learning this week.

At the Upper School, we began the week with a fantastic assembly from Mr Spoerer to mark World Downs Syndrome Day.  He told us about his daughter Zoe, who was born with Downs Syndrome.  We really enjoyed seeing the beautiful photos of her.  Mr Spoerer also taught us some Makaton and we learnt to perform it to the chorus of a song he had a written for his daughter.  During the assembly, some children were also awarded special prizes for sharing their learning.  What a wonderful way to start the week!

At the Lower School we started the week learning about growth mindset and how having a positive attitude can improve our ability to learn.  We thought about how somethings we can feel sad if we make mistakes but if we have a growth mindset, we can turn this around!  Instead of saying “I can’t do it” we can say “If I make a mistake, I can try again” or “If I keep trying, I will get better at this”.  It was great to hear some children using these skills this week and celebrating having a growth mindset in our Rainbow assembly on Friday.

Word of the Week

This week’s Word Wizard at the Upper School is Fungie in Lime class who wrote a fantastic sentence using the word ‘gorge’.  This week’s word is ‘ravenous‘.  Please post your entry in the box outside the office to be in with a chance of winning the rosette.

Well done to Clem and Elliot at the Lower School for using ‘joy’ in fantastic sentences.  Next week our word is ‘quietly’ so pop your entries into the golden box for a chance to win a rosette.

Cypress Superstars

Congratulations to Sam in Birch Class who entered a brilliant piece of poetry into a competition and came second.  Well done to Maggie in Willow Class who shared her rosettes that she earned in her horse riding lessons.  Congratulations to Fred, Evan and Jimmy in Beech Class who visited the office with some amazing descriptive writing based on Macbeth.  Keep up the great work!

Well done to Axel, Marcel and Florrie in Ruby Class for their incredible writing based on ‘The Iron Man’, where they both used adjectives to write descriptive sentences.  Ray, Tshombo, Jason, Matipa and Troy in Indigo class wrote some really powerful letters asking people to stop cutting down trees in the rainforest in order to save the orangutans.  Oskar in Year 2 has been making excellent progress in maths and proudly came to show Mrs Sorensen his calculations this week.

Pegasus Annual Parent/Carer Questionnaire

Fundraising

At the Upper School, our eco squad are running a stall at the PTFA Spring Fair to raise funds to continue our work on the garden area.  Year 6 are also running a stall to raise money towards their end of year events and hoodies.  We are very impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and enterprise skills.

PTFA Spring Fair

We hope everyone enjoyed the Spring Fair today and HUGE THANKS to Laura Good and the amazing PTFA for their hard work and commitment to Cypress.  Children at the Lower School LOVED the Easter egg hunt in Forest School this morning!  We will share the fundraising total next week.

Easter holiday clubs

Over the Easter holidays Croydon Council is running lots of holiday clubs.  If your family is entitled to Free School Meals, these clubs may be free for you.  Thousands of Croydon children who are eligible for and claiming benefits-related free school meals can now sign up for free activity clubs with healthy meals over the school holidays.
