Bruno learns to Code at Atwood
Upon my travels to capture some of the amazing clubs we have on offer for your children at Atwood, I was pleased to see that Bruno was taking his learning seriously. Apparently, he was helping the children use Scratch, a coding programme developed by MIT.
According to MIT’s own information, Scratch is the world’s largest coding community for children and a coding language with a simple visual interface that allows young people to create digital stories, games, and animations. Scratch is designed, developed, and moderated by the Scratch Foundation, a nonprofit organization.
Scratch promotes computational thinking and problem solving skills; creative teaching and learning; self-expression and collaboration; and equity in computing. Scratch is always free and is available in more than 70 languages.
More than this, Ms Docherty has involved a selection of 6th Form students, who visit Atwood each week and teach the fundamentals of Scratch with the Atwood children. This means that Atwood has developed a real community link with one of secondary schools that many of our children go to.
I wonder what Bruno has coded? Do you think it is a device that allows him to unlock his food bowl each hour?
