We have had a fantastic week at the Upper School this week. It has been so busy with many exciting Book Week events taking place and one more still to come. Today we celebrated World Book Day and were amazed by the wide variety of creative costumes the children were wearing. Visiting Authors
On Monday, we were joined by Joshua Seigal who launched our ‘Book Week’ with a fantastic assembly sharing his poems. At the children’s request, we finished our assembly with a performance of our favourite poem ‘Addicted to Chicken’ which all spent the rest of the day singing. Each Year 3 class then had a poetry workshop where they got to work with Josh and write their own poems. On Tuesday, we were joined by author and illustrator Chris White who wowed the children with his art skills and story telling. He then spent the rest of the day working with our Year 4 classes and helping them produce some fantastic writing. Wednesday saw the arrival of rapper and poet Breis who started the day with an inspirational assembly sharing his life story and performing his work. We all thoroughly enjoyed joining in. Year 6 had a great time working with Breis in their class workshops writing their own poems and raps. We look forward to welcoming Margaret Bateson-Hill when she joins us on Monday 13th March when she will joining us for assembly and working with each Year 5 Class.

Year 3 Parents and Carers Reading Sessions
This week we have had so many Year 3 parents and carers join us to read with their children in the library. The children really enjoyed having a chance to share a book and show them the library. As these sessions have been so successful, we are hoping to extend them to Year 4, 5 and 6 in the coming weeks.
Poetry Slam
This morning we had our annual Poetry Slam where each class shared a performance they had studied this year. The standard of performance was incredible and each class wowed with their performance. In 3rd place this year were Sycamore Class, 2nd place went to Birch Class. Our winners this year were Willow Class with a fabulous performance that even included a surprise guest appearance from Mrs Yeboah.
Reading Café for Poetry Slam Winners
As our Poetry Slam winners this year, Willow class were rewarded with a reading café this afternoon. They had a wonderful time enjoying hot chocolate, squash, biscuits and of course, reading their favourite books. Well done Willow!
Rowan Class Assembly
We started the day today with a wonderful assembly from Rowan Class who shared some of their learning with us. We were treated to a fantastic performance of Cat Rap and some poems the children had written themselves during their Book Week workshop with Chris White. They ended their performance with a rousing rendition of ” We could of been anything that we wanted to be” from Bugsy Malone. Well done to Rowan Class for their excellent performance skills and collaboration and a big thank you to Miss Marshall and Miss Sabih for all their hard work in helping the children prepare.
Cypress Superstars
Bea, Mason, Otis and Sofian came to visit me this week with some wonderful work they had produced in their Values lesson on the rights of children. I was really impressed with their understanding and the care and thought they had put into their posters. Clara and Eesa also visited the office to share their self-portraits inspired by Picasso. They had learnt so much about the artist and I enjoyed hearing their knowledge of the different periods. Well done girls!
