Cypress Upper: Magnificent Turn Out for Museum Day

It has been a very busy last week before half term! The staff and children have been working so hard getting reading for our Museum Day.

In Monday’s assembly, we reflected on our BLP resourcefulness skills.  This half term we have been focusing on the five strands: making links, reasoning, capitalising, questioning and imagining. Ms Binks shared an image of a resourceful frog who had managed to make an umbrella out of a leaf.  The children were able to identify all of the different BLP skills the frog had used to help him. What an impressive start to the week!

Yesterday, Year 5 were visited by the Fire Brigade for a fire safety talk.  They learnt lots of important skills to help them stay safe and to know what to do should they encounter a fire.  Well done Year 5!

Gold Award  

This half term our Gold Award recognises those children who have shown they are independent learners.  Well done to the following children who have shown they are consistently independent in their approach to education.  We are really proud of you.

Museum Day

We were so pleased to welcome so many of our parents and carers to our ‘Museum Day’ today.  The adults were able to travel back in time to visit the Victorian, Roman, Egyptian and Viking eras.  Many children had come to school in costumes and the school had been transformed by the staff.  So many visitors commented on the quality of the children’s work and the wonderful displays.  They also enjoyed the chance to join in with some of the activities.  Adults were sewing, creating shields, making mosaics and helping build shadufs.  There was a wonderful atmosphere in the school.  The children have also enjoyed visiting the different zones and seeing the work that has taken place in different year groups. A huge thank to you all the staff for your hard work in preparing the exhibits.  An extra thank you goes to Miss Patel for all her hard work and organisation in the run-up to the big day.

Word of the Week

This week’s ‘Word Wizard’ was Mia in Beech Class who wrote a fantastic sentence using the word ‘hectic’.  This week’s word is ‘twilight’. Please post your entry in the box to be in with a chance of winning.

Cypress Super Stars

Well done to Matilda in Lime Class who has used some fantastic vocabulary in her description of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed Pompeii.  Congratulations to Taylor in Birch Class who made excellent use of his phonic knowledge to spell words in his sandwich making instructions.

Eco Council Tree Grant

Behind the scenes, some fantastic parent volunteers have been busy applying for grants in order to make our garden wonderful.  Due to their hard work and dedication, we have been granted some nature-enhancing trees and hedgerow whips in order to create an orchard.  As the confirmation email stated, well done on being a force for nature!

We hope that these will arrive in time to coincide with Garden Day!  This is on Saturday 11^th March from 12- 3pm.  If you can, please come along and help to create a beautiful place for the children (and adults!) of Cypress to enjoy for many years to come.

Book Week 2023

The second week back after half term is Book Week, a real highlight in the Cypress annual calendar!  We will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 3rd March and children will be invited to dress up as their favourite book characters.  Let’s get creative!  Please check out our Book Week newsletter attached for more information about the exciting activities and events we have planned.

A Fond Farewell

Today we said farewell to Miss Brewer who is moving jobs to pursue her dream of being a teacher.  She is taking on a new role as an HLTA in a school in London.  Miss Brewer will be greatly missed by the staff and children at Cypress.  We wish her all the best in her new role.

We wish all our Cypress families and children a safe, restful and relaxing half term. We look forward to seeing you back in school on Monday 20th February.
