CYP Lower – Weekly news and the winners of the Active Travel art competition!

This morning our Reception children joined KS1 in the hall for Rainbow assembly for the first time, in preparation for their transition to Year 1 in September.  Well done to all of our Rainbow recipients this week and to Gabriella for winning a Word of the Week rosette for her sentence ‘I will investigate who stole the biscuits!’.  Next week our Word of the Week is spider so please pop your sentences into the golden box for a chance to win.

Mrs Jerman led a special assembly on Tuesday to reveal the winners of the Active Travel art competition.  Please have a look at the video below to see our winners and those children who received a special mention for fabulous entries, showing what they can see on their journey to school.  The winners received a special art pen set – congratulations!  Thank you to Mrs Jerman for leading this exciting competition.

In other news, Mrs Spencer and children in Reception spotted a couple of ducks enjoying exploring our Forest School this week.  I wonder where they came from?  We’re hoping that they’re here to stay and if they do we’ll have to come up with some names for them!

This week our children in Reception have continued their learning about minibeast.  Well done to Red class for a fabulous class assembly, enjoyed by parents as well as the other Reception classes.  We are looking forward to Yellow class assembly next Thursday morning – please see the letter here.  In Year 1, children have been learning about time and telling o’clock and half past times on an analogue clock.  They have also been writing speech bubbles inspired by the ‘Awongalema Tree’ story which is about some animals that need to find the name of the tree in order to get its fruit.  Our Year 2 children have been preparing for their transition into Year 3 and joined the Upper School for their Rainbow assembly on Monday.  Please click here to read more about the transition activities and events we have planned for them.  The weather has been glorious today and Year 2 have enjoyed a fabulous trip to Broadstairs beach, feeling the sand between their toes, building sandcastles and paddling in the sea.  Ms Chapman even treated them all to an ice lolly!

The amazing PTFA raised an impressive £4000 at the Summer Fair so a huge thanks to everyone involved!  Tickets for the upcoming PTFA Secret Garden Party are available here: www.pta-events.co.uk/cypressptfa.

Our Lower School Sports Day is next Friday 8th July.  Please click these links to read the letters for EYFS (Nursery and Reception) and KS1 (Year 1 and Year 2).

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
