Our children had a fantastic time with their science experiments this week. Here is a sample of what they have been doing.
Nursery made a cress, mustard and cat grass mountain. Once grown, they made mustard and cress sandwiches and used the remainder of the mountain as a dinosaur world! They have also been learning about the lifecycle of the butterfly and are waiting for the chrysalides to hatch in to butterflies. They have read The Hungry Caterpillar and cut out their own butterflies and then painted them on one side, folded them over and watched their symmetrical patterned butterflies emerge before their eyes!
Reception children investigated changes in materials. They made some butter using double cream. They also used their feet to feel the texture of corn flour after adding water and explored melting in the sun of a range of food, such as cheese or chocolate…
Year 2 children explored how water travels through plants including celery, cabbage and some white flowers.
Year 1 children had a challenge of blocking the absorption of water through a stack of sugar cubes. They observed what happens when raisins are dropped in fizzy water and investigated sinking and floating in a density column made with water and baby oil.
