PE and Sports Grant Funding
Sport has always been an important element of the curriculum offer at Atwood. In common with other Pegasus schools all year groups from Year 1 to Year 6 are taught at least one lesson per week by sports coaches. Staff have received Continued Professional Development (CPD) and support from specialist coaches in order to develop various aspects of PE provision. Resources are well stocked and a number of clubs are in place for the enjoyment of Atwood children. The school has continued to enter various Croydon leagues and taken part in festivals for many different sports.
In 2021-2022, there were 60 children in the Year 6 cohort. 88% of these pupils could swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. We worked intensively on a weekly basis with the 12% of children who were not meeting this expectation. Atwood used some of its additional Sports Premium Grant to fund such lessons.
Official sports funding report
The DfE requires each school in receipt of sport premium funding to publish details of how this fuunding was spent by the end of the summer term or by 31 July 2023 at the latest. Atwood’s latest funding statement is below.
